The Moons

Back to Main
Back to Character Creation

The magic and balance of Arcadia is governed by six moons which hang so high above Upper Sky that many learned scholars believe that there is absolutely no air. If that is true, than the moons are so far away as to be truly massive. Each moon glows with its own unique hue, and that is the color by which it is known.

Note: All locations are given relative to Middle Ocean.
Also Note: Some powers have an inherent tendency to be aligned with one of the moons, and are listed under the Powers entry for that moon. However, certain special effects are linked to moons as well. When a power and the special effect chosen to drive it are listed under different moons, the special effect takes precedence for determining the powers alignment. Also note that some Powers are listed under more than one moon. This means that it could go either way depending on how it is used. In those situations, compare the overall effect of the power as implemented with the Governance of the moons to best determine alignment.

The Yellow Moon

Location: The Yellow Moon’s sway begins just a few leagues north of Sailor’s Island.
Governance: Lightning. The power of the Yellow Moon brings forth the power of lightning, strengthening the machines of Valua, and weakening the bodies of flesh and blood foes.
Special Effects: Lightning.
Powers: Drain, Find Weakness, Suppress, Telekinesis, Teleportation, Debilitating Physical Transforms.
D&D 4e Element: Lightning.
Associated Landmass: Valua.

The Red Moon

Location: To the immediate east of Middle Ocean.
Governance: Fire. The power of the Red Moon makes the Great Nasr Desert a land of scorching sand, but can also be harnessed to bring forth a living creature’s inner strength, augmenting them greatly.
Special Effects: Fire.
Powers: Aid, Characteristic Enhancements (STR, CON, BODY, PRE, COM, REC, END, STUN), Damage Reduction (PD & ED), Density Increase, Knockback Resistance, Augmentive Physical Transforms.
D&D 4e Element: Fire.
Associated Landmass: The Lands of Nasr.

The Purple Moon

Location: To the south, below the Sky Rift that forms the bottom border of the gale filled South Ocean.
Governance: Ice. The power of the Purple Moon has left the southern continent perpetually locked in a massive sheet of ice. The Purple Moon’s energies also have some strange resonance with the mind, allowing it to strengthen or weaken it depending on just how this energy is applied.
Special Effects: Ice.
Powers: Characteristic Enhancements (INT, EGO), Clairsentience, Ego Attack, Mental Defense, Mental Illusions, Mind Control, Mind Link, Mind Scan, Skill Enhancement, Telepathy, Mental Transforms.
D&D 4e Element: Ice.
Associated Landmass: The uninhabited southern continent. Ancient texts sometimes refer to it as Glacia.

The Green Moon

Location: To the immediate west of Middle Ocean.
Governance: The life force itself. The Power of the Green Moon is used in all healing magic, and in balance is also the governing force in all poisons. Whatever lands do lie under the Green Moon must be fertile, brimming with plant life useful in the making of life saving medicines and deadly poisons.
Special Effects: Poison.
Powers: Drain, Endurance Reserve, Enhanced Senses, Growth, Healing (non-resurrecting; BODY), Shape Shift, Shrinking.
D&D 4e Element: Acid.
Associated Landmass: Unknown.

The Blue Moon

Location: Unknown. Most say it lies far to the east, beyond Nasr & the Dark Rift, although a small minority think it lies to the far west beyond the Green Moon.
Governance: Wind. The power of the Blue Moon is said to bless the lands of Yafutoma with gentle breezes and fair weather. The energies of the Blue Moon are closely associated with the spirit, giving them governance over emotions.
Special Effects: Concussive
Powers: Characteristic Enhancements (DEX, Speed), Flight, Gliding, Knockback Resistance, Missile Deflection & Reflection, Telekinesis, Spirit Transforms.
D&D 4e Element: Thunder.
Associated Landmass: Yafutoma.

The Silver Moon

Location: Directly overhead, the Silver Moon governs the skies of Middle Ocean itself.
Governance: The Void. The energies of the Silver Moon directly affect the balance of life and death. As such, the influence of the Silver Moon is necessary for all resurrection and death magic.
Special Effects: Positive & Negative.
Powers: Dispel, Healing (resurrection; & alternate forms), Lack of Weakness, Life Support, Luck, Power Defense, Shape Shift, Stretching.
D&D 4e Element: Radiant.
Associated Landmass: None. There are no significant landmasses in Mid Ocean, just a few small islands.

Note for D&D 4e: Force, and Psychic are considered unaligned energies. Poison is often associated with the Green Moon, but is not considered an element. Necrotic (with possible very, very, very, rare exceptions) is not used in this campaign.

Alignments

Each of these areas of governance has their strong points and their weak points. The powers of some moons tend to dominate the powers of others that in turn dominate others, which eventually trump the original. Just as each of these powers have their strengths and weaknesses, so too do living creatures, and as a result the moon that corresponds to their natural strength tends to exert a greater influence on their being. Since the various moons cover all spectra of life in Arcadia, everyone is influenced by all of the moons to some greater or lesser degree, but the tendency to be more closely influenced by a particular moon is referred to as a creature’s alignment and every living thing in Arcadia has one. Techniques and abilities that harness the powers of a moon that opposes an individual’s alignment have a more devastating effect than normal. However, techniques and abilities that harness the powers of other moons will have a reduced effect. Be warned, the increased and decreased moon influences do not match up. Just because the power of one moon is disruptive to another, doesn’t mean that counterattacks are reduced.

Each PC will receive a Bonus Feat: Moon Alignment. Valuan PC’s will be of Yellow Alignment, Nasr PC’s will be of Red Alignment, and Blue Rouge PC’s may choose any alignment except Yellow or Silver.

The Moon Alignment Feat will Provide a resistance of 5 to the elements against which their moon is strong, but will also provide a vulnerability of 5 to the elements to which their moon is weak. These resistances and vulnerabilities are calculated as per the table above.

For Example:

Moon Alignment: Blue [Moon Feat]
Benefit: Resist 5 , 5 .
Drawback: Vulnerable 5 , 5 .
Special: These Resistances and Vulnerabilities increase to 10 at Paragon Tier, and then to 15 at Epic Tier.
